Check the crime rate before buying in Portsmouth. Also, drive the community and take a look at the houses around it. Realtors cannot tell you what you can find out about yourself. Some areas have a reputation for drugs or break ins or even violence. It's sad that Portsmouth has gone down hill so much. The property taxes charged do not match the prices of houses in some communities. I have lived here for years. Our community has low prices on houses, yet the taxes are way over what we can sell our homes for. Portsmouth needs to be more realistic about the home values. Too many places are closing and jobs are needed. ... more
