When it comes to any safety/crime related issues, it's always best to contact the local authorities with all your questions, hear all there is to hear firsthand. If unfamiliar with the area(s) do revisit more than once and at different times of day, possibly chat with locals/neighbors. Real estate professionals are prohibited from steering, enticing a buyer to purchase/rent, or not, in specific neighborhoods.

Hello Cherise,
It is possible for two different real estate firms to represent a home if one is listing it for sale and the other for rent.
However; this is a highly unlikely scenario and most probably is a scam.

I suggest contacting the listing agent that has it for sale to inquire about it as he should be aware of the situation.

If it is indeed a scam then flag the listing on this site and report it to Trulia. Here is the link to report it:

Good luck!
