Actually, Sherry, you will be surprised by the amount of biking. There are many shops and clubs that go on long rides. Our son rode with a group last year that went on 35 mile rides daily, starting early in the morning.
On Fleming Island, where I live, there is a 7 mile sidewalk that runs the entire length of the Island. In Orange Park, there are Bicycle lanes on the side of the major roads, making it safer for cyclists. We regularly see large groups riding through our neighborhood early on weekend days.
Out near the Beach, Nocatee has miles of nature trails where you can bike. In fact, there was a cycling event out there a few months ago while we were showing houses to some Buyers.
If you like to ride in the Country, then the Fleming Island area would be ideal. If you want to be more in the middle of city activity, then the Intracoastal/Beach area is what you are looking for. St. Johns County, including Nocatee, is a good mix of the two, being closer to the beach but having rural areas as well.
Again, there are many people who kayak on the St. Johns and the Intracoastal. There is also Doctor's Lake, a one mile wide, four mile long inlet off the St. Johns, and there is Black Creek, on the south end of Fleming Island, where many people boat and kayak.
Please let us know if we can answer any other questions for you and have a great day!
