Helena,

Unfortunately you will run into scams as its very hard for Trulia to track all of them. My suggestion is to find a reputable Broker for the area you are interested in and have them show you a few properties currently available on the market. This will ensure you wont waste your time or possibly lose money. Thank you, hopefully this helps. ... more

Helena,
There is a section on Trulia to search for local agents in your area. I would suggest searching there for a Realtor you feel comfortable with.

A great question Jane. I often hit the beach as I SCUBA diver on a regular basis. I am also a native Southern Californian guy so you can never completely take me away from the Pacific Ocean. Here is the real answer to your question – no traffic, 1.5 hours; traffic 2.5 or more hours. Yes, its’ true we have traffic in Southern California so plan ahead! One of my favorite ocean treks is to go to Long Beach and take the Catalina Express over to Catalina Island. Really great way to spend a day... ... more

As stated before, there are scams that permeate throughout the internet and it's difficult for 3rd party sites like Trulia and the others to police them. These sites are great to give you only a general view of some of what's happening in the market. That's why it's always best to bypass 3rd party sites when you get serious about finding a place to buy or rent and go directly to the Realtor who has his/her hand on the pulse of what's truly happening. The Realtor can also help you steer clear of any scams and avoid pitfalls. Also, you can download my FREE Real Estate Search app onto your smartphone to find homes to buy or rent and have the info right at your fingertips. And you can enter to win $50,000 just for having the app on your phone. I have several people as well as other Realtors now using my app and they love it. Welcome to the desert - when you arrive! We do have a bit of a shortage of inventory for sales, but do have quite a bit of rentals available. You will want to work with an agent is is also familiar or certified in Property Management. This does give a bit of an edge to the knowledge and experience that will be helpful in locating and making sure that the rental home selected for you is in good order, ready and available when you are.

Also, finding an agent that is able to communicate and stay in touch with you is also important, whether it is by phone, text, email or even still - fax! I have much in the way of resources and access to many properties in the desert area that will fit the bill for you.

I would welcome your contact, to be able to learn more about your circumstances and desires, and will be pleased to work with you immediately. Direct contact on my cell phone at 760-567-0879 will work just fine or email to tjschroeder@tarbell.com.

Have you considered buying instead of renting? Since you and your husband are veterans you can qualify for a VA loan that does not require any down payments. I strongly recommend looking into this option and considering whether or not your have the finances to do this. I have even been able to give out these loans with credit scores as low as 560. Either way, I recommend you speak with a California lender like myself if you want to consider buying instead of renting. I have done plenty of loans throughout California and I would be glad to speak with you. Good Luck! Brian Nguyen Sr. Mortgage Banker NMLS # 659743 Phone: 949.667.2887 brian.nguyen@nafinc.com ... more

You did not mention which school you were going too however, I will assume a school located in Palm Desert. In Palm Springs and La Quinta you have both places to board a horse or you can rent a horse from the stables. You won't have the beaches to go too but lots of sand....once you let me know what school you plan to go too I can locate either or a rental or house for you to consider. I just need to know of your plans. You may go on my website www.ryancolerealty.com or call me 818-355-5317 - am from Sherman Oaks. ... more
