Even homeowners insurance companies will offer a reduction to home owners in a gated community!
Gated communities mitigate risk and present homeowners with lower rates of theft, vandalism and crime. The presence of added security has the potential to deter any malicious activity and should be taken advantage of whenever possible. Those who do may become the recipient of added insurance benefits. Many home insurance policies are able to credit their holders within gated communities, as they are less likely to file a claim.

Those fortunate enough to belong to a gated community may reduce their monthly premium by as much as 20 percent.

“That definitely falls under loss mitigation,” says Sean Meehan, second vice president of property strategy and design for Travelers Insurance. “If you live in a gated community, it’s a lot less attractive to a thief than a place that doesn’t have that security.”

EJ answered:
Based on April 18th report from Osceola County Sheriff there was one burglary in Reunion in the last three months and all other 'crimes' were less serious (trespassing and the like). I would say that that compares favorably with Celebration's burglary statistics - 44 burglaries for the last 12 months, i.e. about 10 for a three month period on average. Of course there are more people in Celebration so one cannot quite compare, but still - 1 burglary in 3 months isn't that bad. ... more

I live in 34771. The answer is it depends. 34771 covers a reasonable sized area with homes and communities in a number of different demographics. I live in a rural part where most homes are on 5 acre plots. There are many nice gated communities and there are many manufactured hime parks.

There have ben numerous reported drug crimes in some of the poorer areas. In fact there was even a body dump a mile from where I live (the actual killing took place in Orlando).

So in summary in some areas there are crime issues. Having said that I have not once felt worried by my surroundings. I will happily walk around downtown. The small lake beach is very safe. Like all zip codes be aware of your surroundings and stay out of the known crime areas and you will be fine.

I love living where I am.

I am a Poinciana resident. I have been for the past 5 years and am in the process of purchasing another home right here in Poinciana. I would say that the gang activities differs depending on the areas in Poinciana that you are looking at. I have been living in village 2 for the past 5 years and there is relatively little crimes compared to other areas.
Better yet, sheriffs can be seen on the roads also every few minutes, so to speak. This has made Poinciana a better place to live than it was when I first relocate.
Except for the traffic, I love it here in Poinciana!
