Depends on wether you are in NYC or outside of NYC. Basic demolition could be as little as 10 Sq ft. On top of that you have to add permits, expeditor and several test due to environmental issues. You will need an asbestos inspection of all of the different homogeneous material. Plaster, gypsum, roofing, shingles, thermal systems insulation if any. They have a minimum number of samples that have to be analyzed via PLM method, and if they are non-friable materials then TEM which is much more expensive. I mean, the testing alone can set you back anywhere from $600 to $2500.

I have to agree with the cost of Asbestos (ACM), around $5 - 10k is probably what the average range would be. NOTE, if your roof has it and your exterior has it and your pipes have it then you can be looking at a lot more then 10k. I have seen homes have as much as $75k in asbestos removal because the plaster was ACM. What about underground storage tanks, concrete or brick homes. As someone mentioned before...go to a local contractor, get 3 or 4 quotes. If there is Asbestos work involved go directly to the ACM contractor for that section of the project, unless you have an engineer of architect involved.
