I have lived in Lyme for the past two years and absolutely love it! I have found the area to be picturesque and has the best of all worlds. Beaches, rolling pastures, wooded areas with hiking trails, river access for kayaking, and a large lake area. The people that I have met have been very welcoming and I have made many friends. The town offers many opportunities to get involved and meet other people. I have three children that attend the high school and they are actively engaged. I would highly recommend this area.
If you would like to know more about the town please don't hesitate to contact me at 860-343-7825

Love Old Lyme,
It is different, not for everybody, but it is a piece of tranquility near the water. Great place for boating or grab a ferry in New London to Islands. Take a train to NY from Old Saybrook; lots of nearby opportunities for getaways. But best of all, it is on the river, ocean, back bay. Kayakers, boaters and over all chill people will like Old Lyme. I will be here as long as I can. It is still priced reasonably and has some real deals too. But those people moving in should know that town regulations are archaic, which is probably the reason the town is locked in time...Little to no commercialization. ... more

Hi Margaret,

Roger's Lake in Old Lyme is an interesting area. The lake does allow power boats and it's large enough for sailing activities. The homes vary in age with the highest density being to the southwest side of the lake as you can see here on Bing Maps: http://binged.it/11wIvZz

Older homes have their challenges and you have to look at them individually to see what they have in terms of favorable topography for gravity footing drains vs sump pumps. The other issue needing study is the high density vs the well and septic systems. Some of the properties are seasonal cottages.

Working with a licensed REALTOR who has construction knowledge will help you find the ideal property that suites your needs and your interests will be protected. I happen to have an Open House this weekend on a client's home in Old Lyme, Point'O Woods beach community where you can preview the workmanship provided to others and the alternative of demo/rebuild by BROM Builder's and our workmanship. Open House is 12-4pm both Sat. and Sunday. Directions an more is here: http://brombuilders.com/openhouse/index.php

Hope this info helps.
