Unfortunately Federal Fair Housing Laws prevent an agent from answering--visit a neighborhood several times to get a sense of belonging. James Frasier answered:
Hello Mary,

Taxes, insurance and utilities will all vary depending on the property but I can give you a rough estimate based on a 3/2 on a 1/4 acre. Taxes could run you around $1400. Insurance around $1000. Utilities would probably be around $200-$300 per month. These numbers of course will fluctuate with each property and owner. If the property is Homesteaded you will save some on taxes. If you need any help locating a home to purchase feel free to contact me.

I personally don't like this idea. In my experience no one ends up buying. This presents a problem as your contract normally obligates you to buy and puts your downpayment at risk if you don't. If you want to rent --then do it, RENT. If you want to buy, then BUY, but don't mix the two. We've recently taken steps in Texas to prohibit these types of transactions. There are still people advertising such schemes and think they have a way around it, but the intent and content of the law is clear-NO RENT TO OWN. There's a reason for the law and that is that there were too many bad guys out there taking people's money in a lot of different ways. ... more
