Often the recipient of awards for originality and quality, Norwalk educators have been particularly successful in the full integration of academic programming and a concentration on individualized learning. Over 83 percent of the system’s more than 800 certified personnel have advanced degrees. Norwalk has been aggressive in tailoring a curriculum that reaches the special needs of all citizens.

With more than 12 elementary, 4 middle and 3 high schools, and after school programs based on the needs of the population served, the sheer number and variety of school programs are too great to describe in much detail.

Since individual schools each offer their own dimension of after school enrichment, sports, and summer programs, as well as monthly special events, you may want to contact the school or it’s PTO directly. Active PTOs fund raising efforts in support of these activities help make Norwalk schools a gathering place beyond the last bell.

The following narrative about how Kendall school promotes and supports parental involvement was submitted by this school.

"Kendall is a community school. We are proud of our diverse multi-cultural population. We provide a comprehensive program for the students and their families. Through the years we have forged strong school-business partnerships that complement our academic focus and enable us to better meet the needs of the children and families. We collaborate with Mid-Fairfield Child Guidance to provide child care, parenting advice, counseling, enrichment, tutoring and peer mediation. These activities take place outside of the academic day. Many of the programs are free, and all are designed to augment our academic programs.

Kendall parents are active partners. They have provided computers, books, field trips and enrichment programs for the entire school. In cooperation with our PTO, we run a series of Parent Workshops throughout the year. Our Parent Workshops are very well attended and we provide translation services for our large Hispanic population. School newsletters in English and Spanish are sent home on a monthly basis.

In partnership with our PTO, we provide many enrichment assemblies and other opportunities for families to get together and support the school and each other."

For more information you can call each individual school from the contact info provided at the link below or follow the link therein to the strategic school profiles.
