The mortgage companies are becoming more and more demanding. I am a Human Resources manager of a large company and besides the amount of work that I have, every day I receive at least one or two verifications of employment daily. Employers are not required by law to answer them, but the mortgage companies treat us as if they were the ones paying our salaries. I understand that they need to verify the pay stubs and W2s in case the ones the applicant provided are false, but some companies ask for home address and phone number which is not considered employment information. When I get suspicious I call the employee and verify if they indeed authorized them to ask all those questions. Some mortgage companies even want me to type a letter on company letterhead stating that the employee works here along with W2s, paystubs, etc which already proves employment. What I always tell my employees, when mortgage companies start demanding too much, look for another company because there is something wrong with them.
