For starters we have the best weather on the planet. Very outdoorsy types do well here. Incredible hiking, Sandias, beautiful mountain, a tram, the nations longest span, transports you from the desert floor to the top of the Sandia mountains were there is a lodge, ski resort and wonderful restaurant/lounge at 10,000 foot, overlooking the entire valley floor... A sunset here is just worldly! and by the way its not a ride ... its a flight! you arrive mountain top in less than three minutes! There are only three towers its amazing! Hike to the fire lookout... a 1933 conservation core fire lookout... stone cabin... very cool.

Take the Rail Runner to Santa Fe! its a high speed bullet train, While at the Depot try a green chile hamburger! Old town, touristy... We also are surrounded by 6 Pueblos, Native American ARTS, JEWELY HISTORIC... IN FACT, One pueblo, Acoma is the oldest continually inhabited site in North America ! Definitely worth a visit!

and that's just a start! There is so much to do!

from the driveway of this house to Tramway and Central is like 13 miles and 13 minutes (going the speed limit). I lived in this house since 1990. Seldom is it dicey to drive to town, but on occasion it is. I-40 gets closed sometmes; however, if you live in Cedar Crest or such in the E Mtns, you tell the officer at the gate and all but one time since 1990 was I not told to go a head, be careful....going up old 66 instead of I-40. I didn't have AWD until i guess about 2009 and did fine. I did like the secure feeling of the AWD when I got it, but could have done without it. My kids had excellent teachers and administrators...and since they all graduaed, the E Mtn Charter School (about 1 1/2 miles from the house) has opened and I have heard excellent things said about it.

Great Question Tjh!
There are many areas in Santa Fe County that will fit your needs. As many of my collegues have shared, checking the area and community restrictions are key! There is a wonderful community in the Hwy 285 area that allows for livestock and multiple animals on a property. All minutes away from many community amenities, the best of all worlds! County Rd 42 and Hwy 14 areas also have locations that will allow for live stock. I recently sold a 10 acre parcel with a 6 stall barn in a community surrounded by Alpaca and Equestiran family operations. All within less then 30 minutes to the plaza. I am sure you can find you Santa Fe Casa for you and the Llamas. Santa Fe awaits with many options to explore! Best of luck in you search! ... more

Guin White answered:
Santa Fe was named the #3 top City for the Best Weather by Travel + Leisure. Our dry, high-desert climate affords one of the most pleasant year-round weather experiences. It does snow in the winter occasionally. Ski Santa Fe, our ski basin, gets the lion's share while the city itself typically gets a few inches and the streets and sidewalks stay clear. I call the snow here "pretty snow" because I think it only enhances our charming town's ambiance in the wintertime. I hope that answers your question. If not, feel free to contact me if you like, Having worked in the hotel and hospitality industry for many years in Santa Fe, I know lots about our city and am delighted to help anyone who's interested. ... more
