I, too, would suggest doing your own research into the area, speaking with people who currently live there, and determining your own level of comfort when it comes to safety. However, online crime rating sites don't give it good ratings. AreaVibes.com gives it an F for crime rate. I would also suggest checking sites such as www.crimereports.com and Trulia's property overview for the area (http://www.trulia.com/real_estate/Talbot%27s_Corner-Nashville/6075/). Best of luck in your home search! ... more

Most of Nashville's outlying areas are very quiet, however, to check crime statistics, it may be best to visit some third-party websites:

Another site to visit to learn about the safety of a particular neighborhood is:
http://crimemapping.com. Select Tennessee, and then you can narrow down to Nashville, and even put in the particular address. Warning: It is full of colors and symbols, but it includes a LOT of info. If you would like to visit a particular home to purchase, I would be very happy to help you. ... more

I have a friend that lives off of Bonnabrook Dr in Hermitage Hills and she has never encountered any issues. She loves living there and has told me for years that she doesn’t plan on moving.

If you would like some more information on that area feel free to give me a call at anytime. I can send you the properties that are currently available and I would love to help you in your search.

As someone who has lived there! DON"T DO IT! There were people around us doing drugs, outdoors, in broad daylight. Maintenance never fixed anything that needed to be fixed and a friend who also lived there had maintenance "break in" with their key. I never felt safe in the parking lot as there were always cars being broken into, and they would come every few weeks to "inspect" the place which always felt very invasive. I was very displeased and got out of there as soon as I could. ... more

Hi Amber - Ditto here too. Looking to move in from out of state but since realtors cannot tell you the answer to crime questions due to fair housing regulations (I used to be a Realtor, GRI) you have options. You can hit up the crime stat reports like city-data.com or you can call the local police department. But even better?? Call the post office. The delivery folks can tell you the real low down. Hope this helps!! I am looking too...and I answered this because living out of state does not grant me the privilege of driving around the neighborhoods on nights and weekends like some are suggesting.... Good luck~ :) ... more

Great Instincts on your part! I agree with all the answers provided below! You will want to drive selected neighborhoods at night, on the weekends, and at odd times. Are there neighbors out on their yards on Saturdays? Are they visiting together? Are the yards clean and well maintained? Have you gotten out of your car and approached a potential neighbor and asked them how they liked living there? How were you treated? Government stats can be very telling and I'd add to that the "get to know your neighborhood" visit to any potential area.

Virginia Degerberg answered:
My husband and I have owned property in these neighborhoods since 2002. My husband is a contractor/renovator and we have bought homes in Cherokee Park and Richland that he has renovated and sold. We have lived in the Cherokee Park neighborhood since 2003. We truly love the area! The neighborhood associations in both are very active. There are events throughout the year that give you opportunities to meet and know your neighbors. Both are walking neighborhood from early morning to late evenings. We have personally never had any issues with crime and feel very safe here. As in any neighborhood things can happen but we have not had any problems. I walk alone with our dog at night quite frequently. As several other agents have pointed out checking the crime map is always a good idea but I think you will find this area very favorable. :)
Please let me know if I can help answer any other questions or help in any other way!

There is a really helpful link right here on this TRULIA site!!!

Click on the Trulia "Local Info" link at the top of this page.
Enter Nashville Tn as the city.
Then click the "local info" link in the drop down menu or the link at right top of page.
Under Nashville Real Estate Overview click the "Crime" link.
There is a heatmap that shows the location of high crime areas, violent / non-violent crimes with police reported incidents listed below the map. Here is a link to get you to that page:

http://www.trulia.com/real_estate/Nashville-Tennessee/crime/

Good luck! I hope this helps & thank you for using this source for a Realtor's advice!

Peggy,

The links that Kathy left below will be very helpful for you, you should use those to discover whatever you want to know about any and all neighborhoods.

My son and daughter-in-law bought a house in the Villages of Brentwood. The house had some updates and they added a few more updates. The construction was solid and they feel comfortable in the neighborhood. They have a great back yard and a pretty good value there. I believe that most of the homes in the area to be solid and the area is good value. ... more
