What are some well respected charities that one can donate some home items (dishes/furniture) that they do not want to bring to their new home?

Any charities that pick up furniture as opposed to dropping the furniture off would be preferable.

Don't forget the Veteran's Services, Salvation Army as well as the Christian Ministries in your area. Their drop off locations are usually very convenient and the Veteran's Services will schedule pickups for heavy appliances and furniture.

Good will does many good things and they will pick up also. They provide employment opportunities and help. There is also Habitat for humanity resale. They have pickup I believe. Depending what part of town you're in. If in the NW you can call NAM (Northwest assistance ministries) they pick up.
Good luck with your move!

Anyone considering donating household items might want to consider their closest military installation. Most installations have a volunteer office that will accept items such as this and pass them to military members to help them out as they transition from one station to the next. On Air Force installations, it's called the Airman's Attic. Think about it the next time you're trying to declutter.

Try the Houston Furniture Bank. They will probably schedule a date to come and pick up the furniture for you. Here is a possible contact number: 713- 842-9771.

Houston's Good Will is a great charity! Also the Salvation Army and Purple Heart!!

Realtors are very busy with tons of charities. I would highly recommend the Nancy Owens Memorial Foundation that supports Breast Cancer Research by 1,000s of Realtors and others across Houston.
