We'd love to have you as a neighbor here in Medford, MA. My office just built a community of 41 townhouses here in Medford, http://www.AmaranthPlace.com there's 1 unit left #3, it should be finished over the next few weeks. If you'll be visiting the area we'd be glad to show it to you. Also I have a mobile GPS/MLS application that gives you free access to the local MLS listings along with directions, pics & contact info for any property you might be interested in.
http://www.medfordhouse.com/gpsmls-search-app.asp - it's a free download to your phone and works with most major carriers: AT&T, Verizon, Boost, T-Mobile, Sprint etc.
Also if you'd like a free market snapshot for any town you might be interested in my site http://www.MedfordHouse.com has a great tool that's free and will keep you updated on what properties are selling for http://www.medfordhouse.com/market-snapshot.asp , it'll also give you school info, local attractions & resources. It works for just about every locality in New England. Even if you choose not to work with me, it's a free service I offer. Feel free to utilize the tools, no obligation just glad to help.
Happy Holidays & good luck with your search :)
Without specifics on your price range or size requirement, I would suggest Somerville or South Boston as an option for your move to the Boston area. Though they are not in the Boston proper core neighborhoods of Back Bay, Beacon Hill or South End, which tend to be pricey, both enjoy the convenience of city location, i.e. diversity and commutor convenience with the affordability of more space, parking and yard option. I specialize in Buyer Agency and would love to assist you in your search for a new home. The best way to reach me is to email me at email@example.com or on my cell phone 617-901-7600.

I am sure I can speak for all MA residents when I say WE ARE THRILLED TO WELCOME YOU TO OUR WONDERFUL STATE!!!!
There are so many wonderful towns to choose from that meet your initial criteria, it would be next to impossible for you to do it alone! I am a relocation specialist who can certainly help you "narrow down your search."
Posting your inquiry on Trulia is a great place to start, but nothing will take the place of a real estate professional who will listen to your needs and sort through the inventory to make the most of your valuable time.
I am currently working with a couple from Southern California who fit your description exactly. Out of a possible 60+/- houses that they found on the internet, I was able to narrow down the list to 12. We just put a house on deposit...well within their comfortable budget....and more beautiful than they could ever have imagined!
In short, whether you choose to contact me directly, or another relocation specialist, I would highly recommend you do so! You will save yourself a LOT of time and aggravation!
Best of luck to you both!
If you want to talk more about what neighborhood is best for you I would be happy to help. Some things that would help narrow down the search would be where you will be working, what your price range is, what is your desire to be in the city vs. suburbs, etc.
Just to let you know, buyers who purchase a home through our company receive a 20% cash refund (in most cases) from our commission as your buyer's agent.
Best of luck,
