When it comes to any safety/crime related issues, it's always best to contact the local police department with all your questions, hear all there is to hear firsthand. If unfamiliar with the area(s) do revisit more than once and at different times of day, possibly chat with locals/neighbors. Real estate professionals are prohibited from steering, enticing a buyer to purchase/rent, or not, in specific neighborhoods.

You can go to this website to see what reports have been filed by police in this zip code:

You will find that it is a pretty quiet area.

If you aren't working with a Realtor yet, I would be happy to help you find a home! Get in touch.

I hope you also scouted the surrounding zip codes as well. 46222 has traditionally not been the best near-north side zip code. If you stay close to the Butler area, around Broad Ripple, you will find older homes in restored condition you may like.

Check out the IMPD police records, or look at a home in the area on Trulia and check the stats that are posted nearby. Both are a good place to start.
