1. Their apartments are over garages, and the fumes from the cars leak up into the above apartments, they basically poison anyone with first floor apartments. When I told them about it they basically shrugged their shoulders.

2. They convinced me to upgrade to a "nicer" apartment without seeing it, I moved in and all of the supposedly nice appliances were dented beyond belief, it looked way worse than any of the "cheaper" apartments did. I asked for them to fix or at least take down my rent since it was basically a lie, they said no.

3. The dog park is not only always empty, it is littered with cigarette butts everywhere, they don't even try to maintain it.

4. They say the carpeting on the second floor protects the first floor from noise. Not even remotely true, I could hear entire conversations my upstairs neighbors have in their normal tone of voice, it is absolutely ridiculous.

5. The most unresponsive and indifferent staff I have ever had the displeasure of working with. They respond to 1 out of 10 emails, and when they do it's weeks later, their managers seem to be on vacation all the time.

6. DO NOT rent here, you will regret it, trust me, there are so many other places that are cheaper and better, with more courteous staff. Stay AWAY.

Your best bet to look for rentals is to engage with a real estate agent so you are sure to be considering properties listed on the MLS. There is s a big issue with rental scams - essentially scammers hyjacking listing data and trying to get people to bite.

Words of advice - trust your gut --- response seems suspicious - bingo - it is!

If something seems "to good to be true", it is!

Never, ever send anyone money - never!

Be aware that scams do exist; be mindful that such web sites are third party sites, so the information is fed by various sources, therefore data is not really verified. If you choose not to work with an agent of your own always verify ownership before exchanging any money/personal information--make certain they are who they claim to be. Never wire any money, if it sounds too good to be true, it is. For scam related information see link.

I think that there are several factors involved in your search. First of all, what would you consider to be an easy commute into Jersey City? Would you like to drive or take public transportation? How long would you like your commute to be? Another thing to consider is what are you willing to compromise? Would you rather have a better commute or a bigger rental?

To throw some ideas out there, Cranford and Westfield have very good schools, and are about 35-40 minutes to Jersey City (taking the train into Newark Penn and transferring to PATH to go to Jersey City). However, I could not find any rental with 2.5 baths, although there are several with at least bedrooms.
Further west in Bridgewater, there are also very good schools. However, the commute becomes 20-25 minutes longer. The bright side is that you are able to get more for your money in terms of rental size.

Mark R Morse answered:
The best way to do it is to pick a central city that you are interested in and then do a mile radius, however far out you would like to go from that town. While very tedious, you can also pick the towns if you know a specific area or towns that you would like to avoid.

The best way is to find a Realtor to help you with your search so that we can use your criteria and our knowledge of regions, towns and specific properties that we have already seen. That way, you don't waste unneeded time searching and looking on your own. Many properties that are listed on here will require credit check and such as well so the sooner you can get that done by a Realtor, the stronger your position will be when trying to find a rental. If I can help in any way, let me know.
