I moved here from Phoenix, AZ. I highly recommend moving to Fairport as the schools are fantastic and we have Fairport Electric which is cheaper than any other electric companies. When I run my air conditioning 24 hours a day the highest my bill has been was about $40 a month. Rochester Gas & Electric would be $350 for a month. ... more

You will have to check your state laws on landlord tenant law, you can not usually just withhold rent, if you do you must put it aside as it could become due and payable when the items in your apt are cured or if if a judge orders it. ... more

Fairport/Perinton is the best area with a lot to offer for social life and above average schools. Very beautiful area with the lowest cost of gas and electric ( Fairport has it's own low cost electric grid source) in all of NY. Quaint old school feel, but with a lot of current or brand new up to date areas very close. The best shopping mall in all of New York (Eastview Mall) is a few miles away in Victor. (edge of Perinton) It's by far the best area around Rochester for many reasons! I'm a 55 year old male that grew up in a town south of Rochester called Henrietta. Loved it growing up, but would not recommend that area now days. Fairport/Perinton is the spot for the best cost of living, great schools and just plain beauty! ... more

The university of Rochester runs their own bus line that covers Cornhill, Monroe Ave and Park Ave. areas of the city (you would have to check with them as far as routes and availability). I have 1 bedroom units available in Cornhill neighborhood which is a historic district just north of campus can walk it but again there is the U of R bus line. These units are available for a December or January move in with some specials going on. The units start at $775 per month which includes electric for lights, you have to pay for heat and cooking gas. Please call me if you are interested in them.

The closest to the UofR, and most convenient are all of the apartment complexes off of Elmwood Avenue about a mile down the road which the UofR bus runs.
What you haven't expressed is what type of apartment you are looking for; an apartment complex, an apartment in a multi family home, number of beds/baths, central air, laundry on the premises etc.
Utilities included. All of these factors into what will be best for you. Price range?
The UofR has a housing website.

Happy Thanksgiving! Highland, Monroe and South Wedge areas have an abundance of rental property available in all different price range low of $650 to well over a thousand dollars a month depending on size, condition and location of rental unit. These areas are popular with students, twenty something's and others because of their central locations and close proximity to entertainment establishments and excess to all points in Rochester. This isn't the best time of year for available units but I do have a few rentals on Meigs St. near Monroe Ave running at $900 a month for 2 bedrooms, off street parking, in converted homes. If I can be assistance to you please don't hesitate to contact me.

You will find that Rochester is pretty easy city to get to one place to another if you are driving a car our mass transit is not as prevalent as in bigger metropolitan areas. If you would like to contact me I would be happy to show you what there is available near your temple.
