Yes, Maynard is a great little town, very welcoming. Multi-racial or LGBT, would most certainly be comfortable living here. We have a walkable downtown, great little restaurants and an excellent library.Neighbors are close, friendly, but not "in your face". We have excellent, caring teachers and a brand new High School. Maynard has very little crime. You would love living here :-) ... more

Since it is no longer used as an "air strip" for aircraft, it is not bad in that respect.

As the other agents suggested, the first place to start would be the Arlington Building Department which is located on Grove Street in Arlington. I doubt you will need a variance to finish an attic, but they are better equiped to answer your questions . A variance is needed when building a new home or an addition that would violate the current zoning laws. It typically involves property lines which is not the case in your situation. ... more

Bill Eckler answered:

Coming from the New York state north country I have a pretty good feel for living in this location. Most north country folks have a main heating system, electric, oil, gas, etc that is backed up by WOOD. What it comes down to is wood being the main source of heat being backed up by the homes heating system.

People also have this in place in the event of a winter time emergency that would shut down electrical service and impact your ability to provide heat. It is of ultimate importance that a back up system is taken into consideration.

Hope this is helpful.

If your talking about Lexington KY then I will answer this way. It is a great place for anyone, and there are several quality golf courses in the city and within an hours drive in all directions. I have been here for 9 years and have made it a mission to play every single course in the area, I am not done yet. Not that I have not tried but that everytime I think I have hit them all I find out about another one. They range from municiple par 3's that are fit for kids, to championship level courses that host professional events. You can generally play 10 months out of the year, but there are days in mostly every month when you can get out to play, but they get full quick. Property taxes in Fayette County are about $1007 per $100,000 in assessed value for the full service areas. There are pockets that are cheaper that may lack a service like cith garbage pick up or street sweeping, and the counties surrounding Fayette are all different but a good rule is the above number. Property prices are affordable in my opinion in terms of most of the country, and there are several developments underway targeted to retirees. ... more
