If you are looking for a decent place it will not be cheap in desirable neighbourhoods...desirable translates to many things but primarily:
ease to Streetcar
Walkability to restaurants, groceries, fun places
Ease to get in / out of the area to other areas
The demand of others for a specific size of property.

If you are serious about renting, walk with your checkbook, and a specific short list of what you want.

Many people especially if they are recent transplants to New Orleans spend too much time being tourists looking at 100 + apartments...and by the time the find one they want it is long gone.

Experienced landlords and Realtors have figured out that when someone texts about an apartment..they are generally doing the "100+" mambo, texting to every listing in town...as such they will not hold their breath or any apt for lookers.

So go out there, armed with your checkbook and if you like a place and neighborhood, grab it!
