did anyone go to the Box in the 1940s? I grew up spending summers at my grandparents cottage at Houghton Lake near Robert's Resort. I was just a kid but my mom and aunt never missed a weekend at the Box. I always went to what I "thought" then was a town hall (and maybe it was the Box also) and we younger kids watched "older people" dancing.

Anyone out there from the 1940s to 1950? I was from Bay City by the way and attended Kolb School.

There are probably 2-3 times as many homeowners who are "underwater" and need help.
Ask a Realtor how many Shortsales and REO's are LISTED, and you could estimate that the total number of "distressed" families is 3-4 times those listings.
This should be good enough for your purposes. Especially since those numbers are constantly changing.

As for estate living, I work for Sotheby's in Birmingham and we have represented some of Metro Detroit's finest homes.

We have a preforming arts center downtown and all summer long we privledged to enjoy broadway productions at a fair price. On summer Fridays the front patio of the center is the home of an organic green market complete with artisan breads, cheeses, fresh produce and flowers. The restaurants in town are fun and electrifying. Some are younger crowds and others are middle aged people. Some local and many from all over the country. In the winter months the locals enjoy a quieter Saugatuck and a beautifully lit for Christmas town with Wow and Sparkle lighting. ... more
