Your best resource from crime statistics is the local police or sherrifs department. Most of them will have a web site where you can check.

Hi Doris! You can research the local stats by looking half way down the page where the map is showing the neighborhood statistics related to crime, school rankings, walk score, etc.

Richard Stew…, Real Estate Pro in Kalamazoo, MI
Tue Feb 4, 2014
Richard Stewart answered:
Crime statistics/reports can be very misleading. When a motorist gets arrested for a dui, it adds to the crime rate for that block. If a woman gets arrested for non payment of child support, that is an arrest on that block. Failure to appear for a traffic violation is a crime on that block. Shoplifting at a nearby store is a crime on that block. Kalamazoo jails many people that "we are mad at" and it is disturbing that non violent offenders take up more room in the jail than violent criminals. You can see for yourself each days arrests for Kalamazoo county at http://jail.kalcounty.com/ArchonixXJailPublic/Default.aspx You may be surprised to see what people are really being jailed for when a ticket might be a more reasonable solution than more jail space at taxpayer expense. I also recommend you talk to the neighbors when considering a home and get their first hand perspective, regardless of what a crime map might show. No report will make you feel as safe as good neighbors. I think many people underestimate the value in community with neighbors and how it helps keep a neighborhood safe. ... more

Hootmonaz answered:
It really depends on what part of Dearborn Heights you are looking at. In my 57 years of living in northeast Dearborn Heights, I do not find the crime rate to be high at all. I believe this neighborhood has a very low crime rate in fact. However, I cannot speak to other parts of Dearborn Heights. I can only say that I have heard that NOT all areas are equal with respect to crime. Northeast Dearborn Heights is a good area, that I DO know. ... more

Hello,

Realtors are not allowed to comment on crime rates nor are we as informed as the local police department. To answer your question correctly, I would suggest contacting the local police department in that area and asking them, they will have the best answer for you. Maybe you can also go and talk to a few neighbors as well.
