At least in South Beach, the pedestrian environment is what drew us here 15 years ago. It's great to be able to walk to almost anything. Great restaurants, shopping, museums and galleries, and of course the beach, are all within walking distance. The weather, naturally, was the initial draw. On the downside, you have to somewhat turn a blind eye to the fact that, as a mega tourist destination, there can be crowds and the related unpleasantries. It does take a little bit of getting used to the fact that much of the population treats your city like a hotel room. Still wouldn't trade it for most other places I've been!
