A lot of Interlachen housing is trailers, mobile or manufactured homes or whatever you want to call them. Some of the lake property is beautiful but a lot of people don't pay property taxes because their property is falling down. The schools are not very good. There is one grocery store and two gas stations and a McDonalds, Subway (in one of the gas stations) a place that serves right out of the grocery store box food and a place called Bruno's that delivers the best pizza in the world. There is an Ace Hardware a CVS a Family Dollar and a Dollar General. If you like living this rural, come on. There are lots of places, hard road, and dirt road that flood really bad when the rain comes down hard and fast. The county doesn't maintain many roads here.

Although everything Rosey has said is accurate, there aren't any more people on welfare here then there is anywhere else. there are certain spots here that are nice to live and there are some that are not quite so nice,as with any other place. there really isn't any high paying jobs close by.

My family has lived there for 25 year. Its a nice place to visit but I personally would not want to live there. Most people live on welfare or have to drive an hour or more to get to work, They have the worst public schools I have ever seen and businesses are closing down right and left.

From an Investors point of view i think Interlachen is a good place to purchase property.
You must have vision to go into any rural area to purchase or live. Also as for investing you don't purchase when the market is high..

Of course, I cannot say anything negative or bad, but I can tell you about the area because I live right next door. Interlachen is very rural and on the outskirts of Putnam County (Palatka,FL). Near by is Keystone Heights (me) which is also rural (outskirts of Clay County, Orange Park). Closest big cities to Interlachen are Gainesville and Ocala. Palatka is growing but is not as big as Gainesville or Ocala. Here's Palatka's newpaper website http://www.palatkadailynews.com/ and the city's website http://www.co.putnam.fl.us/palatka/
Interlachen has their own schools in putnam county http://www.putnamschools.org/
some students from putnam county obtain vouchers to come to Keystone (Clay county) schools, because the county lines meet right here in Keystone Heights. Keystone Heights, FL is comprised of Clay, Putnam, Bradford counties and is also right next to Alachua County.
