Steering is a form of discrimination and is illegal. It could actually cost a RE Professional their license plus some pretty steep fines. Best thing to do is a Google search asking for specifics to your area.

I would Google the city to find out about local culture & call the local police department to ask them about the crimes in the city & which area that they are in ! Good Luck !

I would recommend using the Trulia app, that can tell you the crime rates, schools and more info about a specific area you are looking into.

Hi.
Basically... Those are subjective questions. Walkability, schools, crime rates... What is important to you. Los Angeles is a huge area. I'd recommend finding a Realtor you can relate to, share your concerns with, and check the appropriate, neutral, data bases. Some cities, like Burbank and Glendale, are incorporates cities. Having their own services like police, fire, parks & recs and school districts. About ten years ago, Glendale and Simi Valley took honors in the top safest cities in the country, Burbank didn't have a high enough population to be ranked. I can't remember the publication, but it made local news. I remember being very proud.

WHERE you are not telling us..... are you talking about Burbank?

Let me explain a little bit the legal side of services rendered by Realtors
a) as Realtors we cannot give legal advice as you guessed it we are NOT attorneys
b) when it comes to giving buyers information, opinions, guidance on neighborhoods
we are limited in what we can legally do...
we can Not recommend or discourage buyers from any area or neighborhood for any reason
what we can do
1.)we can suggest to our clients where to get the answers to their questions in order for them to be
well informed to make a decision in which areas / neighborhoods, suburbs/ towns they want to
search for their new home, because those according to them, fit their family needs

2. Which means provide our buyers with the official websites where they can gather information,

3. suggest to them to visit the schools, may be talk to the local police dept, and if they narrowed
down to a home,
4. potential buyers can knock at the doors of future potential neighbors and ask
them why the like this area....

5. and of course we can drive the buyers through areas show them where shopping, transportation,
schools, parks etc. are located...

6. And as far as the buyers getting a good feel for the area, I always suggest to them to drive through
at different times of the day and different days (weekday and weekends)

7. I always always tell my buyers that whether an area is a good fit is a very personal thing.... each
family is different likes to do different things, so their decisions are also different, one school could be perfect for one child and not so good for another because of the extra curricular classes offered
or or or, If you like to go to parks and there are non close by, oh well, you may want to look somewhere else etc. etc. you get the idea.

BUT WHEN IT COMES TO THE HOME VALUE, ITS PLUS AND MINUS, NEGOTIATIONS ON TERMS AND PRICING, INSPECTIONS, THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT AND TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION for the specifics of a specific home, and its future resale value, YOU STICK
CLOSE TO YOUR Realtor, as he or she will guide you will expertise and experience through all the
ups and downs and multitude of details day and day out to lead you to a pleasant and successful closing on THE RIGHT HOME FOR y O U :-)

You should do some personal research on the web. What is considered a nice nighborhood to one person might be totally different for someone else. Take some time and visit the different areas--talk with the neighbors, visit local restaurants, etc.

Burbank has many great communities and neighborhoods. Depends on what you like - vintage shops and bungalows or night life and entertainment; Outdoor activities like hiking, biking or jogging... we even have horse/equestrian properties.

Burbank has something for everyone - you can check out our website below and under property search on the menu you'll find some of Burbank's neighborhood and things to do and explore.

For crime stats or info you can call the Burbank PD and/or Trulia has crime reports for cities as well as doing a Google search. Walkscore also has some features that will give you proximity of areas that may interest you or that you would like to live near. Everyone has their own idea of what the ideal place, community or neighborhood is for their needs and their family's needs - so a little research will help you explore and gauge what would work for you.

Please let us know if we can be of further assistance. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have in regards to real estate.

Have an awesome afternoon.
