New York City is one of the most amazing cities in the world. That being said, Development is ever so changing. New construction on west side, more luxury high rise buildings are being built and crime overall has been decreasing. "Nicest areas" is a subjective matter depending on a persons definition of nice. I would love to help you in your search or help educate you on the city and certain areas of growth since you have last been here in 1996. BEST ANSWER
Nicest areas are all about personal preferences, budgets, wants, needs, lifestyle; therefore consider researching areas of interest on your own, and take the time to visit more than once, then determine where your comfort level can best be reached; don't simply just entertain what other people think or say, another's opinion may not be anywhere near the best thing for you...

James,

There are endless developments and new construction luxury buildings all over NYC as well as a lot of gentrification.

It really all depends on what you are looking for. TriBeCa has great options. Send me an email, nardeen@rapartnersny.com and I would be happy to pass along any information or charts, price per square foot for various markets, etc.

Thanks,

Check out Financial District. There are apartments with amazing statue of Liberty view or freedom tower view.
