When best to look?

Asked by Joseph, Brooklyn, NY Wed Mar 26, 2014

Is it easier to find a good apartment in Prospect Heights at the beginning of the summer (early June) or the end of it (August)? Pros/Cons?

If you could look from November to March , especially late November...that is when you can get the best deal.

Landlords do try to have their leases expiring during the high rental season; late spring through October 1st at the latest. After that the number of people looking is less and so their are also fewer apartments to look at.
There are generally fewer apartments available during the winter months because landlords try not to have vacancies then, because there are fewer people looking to move then.
Depending on what neighborhoods you are looking for, it is better to look earlier in the spring summer than later.
The prime areas around downtown Brooklyn etc. often have bidding wars for rentals in August / September.

It always seems best to look at the very beginning of the season, However each time has its own pros and cons.... So, contact a local Realtor and they know the area better than anyone and can set you in the right direction!
