1) spraying a solution of beach and water on certain strains of mildew
2) hiring a mold remediation specialist to help one get rid of the mold

Firs,t find the source of problem, this should be done in addition to any mold remediation. You will need to handle the repair of the moisture issue in addition to the remediation of the mold. This may mean repairing leaky plumbing or insufficient drainage around a property. It is difficult (if not impossible) for any one but an expert to determine if the mildew (mold) is dangerous to your health. Our area has a lot of moisture issues; we hire mold remediation specialists and contractors to work in conjunction with each other to solve mold issues and correct the condition that lead to the mold in the first place. Why tear out mold damage surfaces if the cause still exists and will come back again and again?

Hi Gabriel:

The solution for mold (including what some people call mildew), depends on where it is. If it is in something like wood, plaster, or wallboard, then the only solution may be to tear out the offending materials. On less porous surfaces, then there may be a more simple solution. However, some of the products used can be dangerous to people and homeowners should be very careful about wearing appropriate protective gear. A good place to learn about mold issues is the EPA's site. Check out the link below. You will find that it is a big help.

Dear Gabriel,
I believe to eliminate mildew we must get to the source of the problem which is poor air circulation and moisture. There are many chemicals that will kill it, but to eliminate it, that is the only way.
In outdoor areas, plants can be cut back and fences painted with a mildew retardant added to the paint. (see professional paint stores). Indoors, leaking pipes or poor roofing is usually to blame and should be investigated and repaired.
