Matt answered:
I live on the south facing side of Tam Valley in the back. It is about 10 degrees warmer than the city, but about 10 degrees colder than San Rafael. However, this is most often only true in the summer. It can be very hot as well. Most days in Spring, Fall and even Winter are warm to extremely hot. It is currently 4pm and 75 degrees in my house. ... more

Janice, in Los Angeles, CA
Fri Jul 10, 2015
Janice answered:
Yes. the school sits on top of the former Mill Valley Dump.
The Biggio Brothers owned the property from the 1920s into the 1950s and accepted wastes from the city of Mill Valley and private haulers. Mill Valley Middle School, Mill Valley Recreation Center, soccer and baseball fields all now occupy the old dumping ground. Soil testing done in the 1980s and 1990s revealed that chemicals, including antimony, arsenic, benzene, toluene and heavy metals had contaminated the soil and groundwater. Alarm systems were installed in the school and recreation center to alert people if landfill gases into the buildings. Pipes installed in the dumpsite collect the chemical gases and release them into the air at the rooftops.
I'm surprised and saddened that the community isn't more concerned about the health and safety of residents, especially children. who spend long hours on this toxic dumpsite.

Robert Rapp answered:
Depends how young your children are and I suppose what hobbies they have. The community, as mentioned above, is very much a hillside, affluent community with a downtown driven by it's art scene and proximity to the city of San Francisco. While many have pointed out the below average public school system in the area, let's not forget the county does have some exceptional private schools to counter. ... more

Justin Lieberman answered:
Hamilton is a great area to live. The weather is incredible. The wind will kick up a little along the levee and on some of the hiking trails. Hamilton School is right at the Main Gate entrance. There is also the Novato Charter School in Hamilton. The high school for the area is Novato High School. Many things for kids and teens to do. There actually is a skate park in Hamilton as well as a community pool. You can walk to the Hamilton Market Place from anywhere in Hamilton. There is a Pete's coffee and a few nice places to eat. I highly recommend the Hamilton area for any family looking for the best on Novato living. ... more

The best school district in San Rafael is Dixie School, my own children went there. Properties that do fall in that district are more desirable than other areas. I hope this helps.
