You agents must be delusional - all the people who actually live there are saying there's a lot of crime and to lock your property and yet everyone saying "there's not crime here" are agents... Seems like most agents just care about selling than actual reality. ... more

Thank you for all the answers, you've all been most kind.

Is there a website that actually list the meaning/interpretation of the various Novato crimes.

I can figure out that SUS CIRC means suspicious circumstances, but what does that actually mean.

BODY is quite alarming as there seems to be quite a few in the Novato area.

@John I will take your advice, I think it is up to the community to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities.

Hi Halley,
I moved to Sausalito from New York in 1996 and the first thing I noticed was the absence of car alarms and sirens :) I've found it to be a very safe community but you should check the statistics yourself at http://www.idcide.com/citydata/ca/sausalito.htm
You can also subscribe to the weekly e-blasts that the city puts out. Let me know if you want the link and I'll look it up for you.
Regards, Victor

Hi John:

I live in Novato and I am very familiar with all areas in Novato and beyond. .

We had some major flooding in the early 1980s which mostly affected the San Marin valley and downtown areas. However, the City of Novato has since undergone some major projects to fix the drainage problem and issues surrounding Novato Creek. I have not heard of flooding of any major consequences for quite sometime now.

I am including a link to City of Novato Public Work Site http://ci.novato.ca.us/pw/eng/flood/flood.htm for your reference. Although there is a pretty scary picture of flooding there, but that has not happened for many years.

Many areas in Novato are still located in what is designated as 100 year flood zone and you will have to obtain flood insurance if your house is within that area. On the flip side, due to the topography of Novato, many areas are also flood free.

Here is a link from City of Novato for the Flood Zone Map http://ci.novato.ca.us/pw/eng/flood/firm.htm

If you have question about a specific property, please feel free to give me a call or email me. I will be able to find that out for you – on our tax records, there is a flood zone indicator which tells what kind of flood zone this property might be in (or not).

When you purchase a property, please do request a Natural Hazard Report (customarily paid by sellers), which tells you whether this specific property is in flood / earthquake / industry area, etc.

Best,
Sylvia

I would say overall crime is not an issue in San Anselmo. Violent crime is somewhat non-existent. The answer from Kim touches on the few "crimes" we see here. I believe this site to be a great REAL ESTATE tool, and not a parenting review column.

There is literally not a single street I have been on in San Anselmo where I have felt unsafe.

I have seen crimes of immaturity. The only time I have been victimized, some one lipsticked my car while parked on the street. I am not sure how old they were though.
