Wear and tear is different than dirt ... the tenant is responsible for leaving the property clean and in the same condition in which it was turned over to tenant ... less normal wear and tear. Carpets should be left cleaned ... landlords should not have to clean your dirt. Our lease states specifically that property is to be left in the same condition in which they found it.
If your parents did not teach you that you should always leave a place in better condition in which you found it, then your parents have failed you. Don't be surprised when your landlord deducts $200 for having your dirt and smells removed from the carpet ....
