This is real estate, everything is negotiable, most people will want a year lease agreement, but I'm sure you could get someone to do month to month. Some rent is better than no rent.

I realize I am answering this question 5 years later but I want to be sure that everyone knows
Cape Coral has no more bugs than any other part of Florida. Lee County uses airplanes to spray
and kill mosquitoes, especially after a big rain storm.
I live and play on my canal. Never has it had an odor. We have dolphin, manatees, tarpon and many other fish that I am sure would stay in the Gulf of Mexico if there was a problem.

I am from Michigan- born and raised/ lived in Millington till 1984- then to Houghton Lake MI- till we moved in 2005/ I know the area well and I can help you find what you need. I am a very picky person myself and if you tell me what is most impt. to you both I can look, take pics and find a place that is WONDERFUL for you. I am not Professional Organizer and have bought and sold homes with my X husband for many years- I won't charge next to nothing- but I am trying to find work related to homes/ decor/ things of that nature. I would say that most people classify me as meticulous and organized, almost to a compulsive degree- but when it comes to helping people and doing things right---- I am your Girl--- whatever you want-- i will zero it down/ so don't feel lost.... your 'Girl Friday' is here- i can find it... i am only asking for a great reference when deliver and a very small finders fee/ no more than 100$ or so when you are happy with what I find... most important to me is a reference... as I am just starting out on my own... newly divorced and one of those SAHM who spent all her time being domestic and raising kids and helping her husband with HIS business- so let me know- if you so wish/ what you want... I can look, I live here in Ft. Myers- I have for a few years, I know the area and I can direct you to the nicer and flag the not so nice areas- I know you feel lost- coming to a new place... so as a fellow Michigander- I am willing to help direct... I am going back to school come January and need to find a niche' to help me cover Xtra expenses. I was a bankteller but I much rather do things I love, help others find what they need and I know this market and what people want to feel comfortable. No Strings attached- so my personal services are at your call- I can verify my info- because I know how many stupid scammers are out there...

Much luck to you both and
I hope I can help-

Vickie,

Welcome to Florida!

During the summer, there are great rental rates on the Beach. You can enjoy what Fort Myers Beach has to offer; and also look for your permanent home, whether on the beach or in Fort Myers proper.

I am available to help you explore For Sale properties on the Beach, if you so choose.

Annette Rubink answered:
I come originally from Minnesota so for me I would trade the summer rain for the winter snow & cold any day of the week!
1. The summer time is pretty hot. It does rain everyday but usually for no more than an hour. It's just like being up north for me, only opposite. I go from my air conditioned home to my air conditioned car to my air conditioned office! Most homes have a screen on their lani that takes care of the bugs.
2. There are so many homes on the market because (Cape Coral) at least was very desired because of the 400 miles of canals in this town. Many so called "Investors" got 100% financing from sub prime lenders so when the market started to decline they had nothing invested in the property, so they all walked away. Keep in mind also that many people (especially the construction industry) lost their jobs and were forced to leave their homes as many of them had ARM's.
My personal opinion is that Fort Myers has some pretty bad traffic, Cape Coral doesn't have that much. Certain parts of almost any city will have its traffic jams in certain areas at certain times of the day.
The average age of Cape Coral is 46, that is not old!
Good luck and feel free to give me a call with any quesitons.

Hi Chris, I am so glad that you and your husband see the advantages of investing in property here in Fort Myers/Cape Coral area. You may search freely on www.A59776.listingbook.com for 1000's of properties offering varioius amenities at short sale pricing.
Unemployment is at an all time high therefore there are many people competing for the same jobs. However, if you have job experience I would search craigslist.com or contact one of the local recruiter offices. People I know are getting jobs. The Christian Chamber in Fort Myers also helps people with finding jobs. Let me know if I can look some phone numbers up or send you any additional information.
