I know that this is an old post, but I thought I would share some observations that I have had living in Lehigh for the past five years (2011-2016). First there are some not so great areas. One of those being the area that is close to 82 (the southwest corner) that has a multitude of duplexes. Most of these are section 8. Do not get me wrong not all of these people are bad people, however you did get a lot of rif raf, drug dealers and not so good intentioned folks coming into this part of Lehigh. I lived there for 4 years and felt like it was okay up until about 2015 when crime started becoming a more common place thing and drug deals were being done out in the open during the day time. I moved to the North Central part of Lehigh (north of Lee Blvd and across from Walmart). This area is wonderful. I will not say that nothing ever happens, however it is rare. I can go out by myself and take walks at night and do not have to worry about what might happen or who might be lingering in the streets. Most of the people I see outside are families playing with their children or people mowing their lawns. I have lived in that area for about a year, however my rental is coming due to expire and I am looking to purchase a home. I have found in my search that the areas that seem to be the best are either those in the southeast area of Lehigh and the Northern part. After looking for a few months I have settled on a home in the extreme northern part of Lehigh which will allow me to continue to enjoy the neighborhood that I have enjoyed over the last year. ... more

Have lived in Lehigh Acres for eight years and counting and have not experienced any type of crime what so ever. It mostly depends on what part of Lehigh Acres that you live in. I know people that live in SW Lehigh Acres that tell me if you have anything it must be locked up in your garage or it will be stolen. Looking at the crime statistics where I live in the NE part of town has a low or almost non existent crime rate. If you live in SW Lehigh Acres, there is a high amount of crime. Check Lehigh Acres crime statistics to find out if the area that you wish to live in is safe. I do and have left property in plain sight and nothing has ever been touched. My neighborhood is peaceful and quiet. Other neighborhoods are quite the opposite. That's my opinion. You can research crime statistics by neighborhood and validate my claims. Thanks for the question and I hope that I've been of some help. ... more

I bought in Lehigh Acres about 3 1/2 years ago. The first year I was still working up north and only came down every so often for a few weeks at a time. Never once did I experience even an inkling of concerns. I moved in permanently about 2 1/2 years ago and still have never seen, heard, or experienced any cause for concern. Just as another post stated, :their are good and bad places in every community." I live close to 82 and Sunshine and the area is quiet and friendly. I think it a great place to raise a young family and I believe, in the not so distant future, the powers that be will connect a road (Green Meadows Rd.) to Estero; making that commute only about 7 minutes to Gulf Coast Town Center.

You get a lot more house for your money here!

When it comes to any safety/crime related issues, it's always best to contact the local authorities with all your questions, hear all there is to hear firsthand. If unfamiliar with the area(s) do revisit more than once and at different times of day, possibly chat with locals/neighbors. Real estate professionals are prohibited from steering, enticing a buyer to purchase/rent, or not, in specific neighborhoods.

Cape Coral has one of the lowest crime rates in the State of Florida for a city with a population over 100,000 people. So, a higher crime rate in a specific area is only relative to the overall low crime rates of Cape Coral. In 2010 the city violent crime rate in Cape Coral was lower than the violent crime rate in Florida by 68.28%. . This is a great city to live in! Neighborhood Scout is a very informative website for Crime stats and on a personal note, I can tell you that when I was looking to move to SW Florida, this site helped me decide on Cape Coral as my ultimate goal. ... more
