County and city records would be the best place to start. However, I can help research a property that you're interested in.

First of all, when was the last time you talk to your Landlord? or Property Manager? My friend experience and asked me the same question. if you saw a Trustee Sale Notice, taped on your door, that is message sent to let you know that the property will be foreclosed and that someone will buy it. Once you see this, start looking for another place to rent. After, the trustee sale, an eviction notice will be sent to the house, which means that the old owner no longer owns the house.

You can also go to the County's Recorders Office and asked if there is a "Notice of Default," has been given to the property owner. Ussually they records this.

The best way is to have a good communication with your Landlord and ask.
