In 2009 working as a tax rep I appealed over 600 property assessments. Many of these homes were recently purchased. The Lake County Board of Review and many assessors did recognize both short sales and foreclosures as long as it was openly advertised on the market, ie the MLS, signs etc. I know that some assessors are even including these types of sales in the sales ration studies. If you recently bought a home through a realtor most likely you would be able to appeal and get the assessment reduced. I hope this information helps you!
