You will need to do your own research regarding quality of schools, crime statistics and what is a "good" neighborhood for your family. Realtors cannot give opinions on these topics because it violates Fair Housing laws. Before you fly down to Jacksonville, you can either call the local police department (not the 911 number - use a local number) or go to their website. The police department can answer questions about safety and crime. As for quality of schools, there are websites for that. You can also call the local schools and ask the Office to have one of the parents contact you. Elementary schools generally have a Parent Teacher organization and those parents will call you. I would also use the information on the Census Bureau's website.

Realtors can provide published information - as long as it's somebody else who wrote it. Being from the New York City suburbs, I suspect the quality of public schools in CT is superior to that of Florida. I know the public schools in Greenwich are far superior. If you're in the Greenwich area, it will be very difficult to find comparable schools.

If you want an estimate of how much a house like yours will sell for, you should contact a local Realtor, who will happily give you an analysis for free.

Don't move there, it's cold, not tropical, too many oak and pine trees so your car will get ruined. Cost of living is high and it's depressing. Move to Tampa Bay, it's so much nicer and affordable. ... more

All I see here are replies by agents wanting to sell you a home. Probably biased.
Be careful. Look up something called the "non disclosure of problems" that comes with a
nocatee purchase contract.

just be careful.

Before you do anything, I would suggest contacting 3 local real estate agents who work in your immediate area and have them prepare CMAs (comparative market analysis) for your home, based on recent sales in your area and the current condition of your home. That will give you an idea as to your home's current worth in the real estate market, you can then decide where to go from there. ... more
