Is it possible for an amateur to succeed in real estate investing?

Asked by Arnmit, Jacksonville, FL Sat Apr 21, 2012

As every stock trader knows arbitraging opportunities (buy-sell price disparity) lasts for micro-seconds before they are wiped out by professionals, before retail investors have any chance at all. With so many full-time professional real estate investors working overtime in every market, what is the chance of success of a small-scale retail investor?

Remember, every professional investor started out as an amateur. Nobody was born a professional at anything. If you are serious (and I do mean serious) you can do it but it is going to take determination and perseverence. Your first step is to find a realtor to work with. Even this may not be easy because there are so many 'wanna be' investors out there who just waste our time and never take action. Dreamers. Do you have money with which to purchase property? Do you have financing available to you? Do you have a plan?

Do your due diligence, think carefully about those questions, do some serious learning, read Gary Keller's book "the Millionaire Real Estate Investor, and attend an investors' seminar at a local Keller Williams office if you can, then start interviewing realtors. If they think you are serious, and not a 'time waster' they will be glad to work with you. Before you know it you will go from amateur to pro!
