Inkster has no real commercial or industrial tax base, so the residential taxes are higher than the surrounding communities, by as much as 3 times. Compare to the taxes in, for example, Dearborn Heights. It has some of the highest water rates in the region as well. The schools are abominable. It has been a very depressed community for decades now, with no real sign of revival.
That said, If I was looking for a rental unit or a unit to flip I would recommend Inkster. The prices can't go much lower, and are about at the point where they will stabilize if not rise.
