The crime is relevant to poverty/low income. There are quite a few lower value homes in large subdivisions that have become rentals - where single parents are trying to raise their children on very low incomes when the cost of living is just such a challenge. A lot of those folks moved out of high crime areas in hopes of better circumstances for their children. Unfortunately, parents struggle with the costs and children are left to raise themselves. There are also many large pockets of semi-rural areas where poverty is generational. Desperate people do desperate things. There needs to be more support for the working poor...... more
Were you oblivious to the clues before you moved to Independence KY?
What were you thinking with you saw the big toys the big boys were displaying?
When folks from NJ move to Florida and want to kill all the alligators, because the community has changed, I wish them well and hope the return to the malls in New Jersey.
When folks from New York do their bumper riding, lane changing and horn blowing, I hope they return quickly the the place from which the came.
The life style you describe is not the one I live. However, having real time experience in the hills of W.Va, I do know, when it is hunting season, for those two weeks, the outdoors is left to the hunters. The rest of the year I can do what ever I want on the four wheeler.
Sometimes we need to have a little give and take. If this expectation exceeds ones capability, they should choose to stay in their like-kind community.... more
We lived in Reveres Crossing and I was harassed and threatened by hunters who live in the subdivision, one even pointed a bow and arrow at me, and left the entrails on the trail i walk my grandson... more
Pricing can vary. Size is important but the condition of the house; size of rooms, etc. can make a large difference as well as location in Independence. Other factors are basement and garages. Houses usually get more rent than an apartment. Independence is very large land mass wise and there are areas very close to main highways; shopping and other areas that seem very rural.Normally tenants of homes in N. Ky do cut the grass.
Apartments in Independence advertise at this price: The Oaks (by Towne Center)$825 2 bdr; Delaware Crossing start 1 bedroom @635;Fairway 1 bdr start @520; Eagle Creek 1 bdr start @530; apple Valley 2 bdr $735.
Hope this gives you some guidance; If you are not into yard work maybe an apartment is better but you will give up your privacy of a home on an acre.... more

Or, you can look for other local agents on Trulia here: http://www.trulia.com/voices/directory/
Please let me know if you have any questions or if I can help with anything else. I am happy to be a resource for you.
Cannot believe someone paid $184,000 for 6220 Dukes...wow. No finished basement and no fenced yard?? The market has certainly changed in less than a year. The last ranch in that neighborhood went for $69 per finished square foot. This one went for over $100. Both had hardwood floors throughout the first floor. Unbelievable...... more
Dishmaedl just a reality check. A new home builder to build a home uses a line of credit from a bank to finance it. The lender wants to know that the loan is going to be paid back in a timely manner. On a land contract the seller is financing the property for 2-3 years on the hope that you can qualify for a loan at that time to refinace out of the seller carried loan. The builders lender is not going to look kindly on a builder that encumbers a property that they have a lien on with a land contract.
That said there are a two builders in my area that I know of that on select market homes will do a rent to own or a straight rental. These properties are normally ones that have been sitting for a while and are not selling on the traditional market.... more
