late twenties. I'm primarily concerned with safety, but I'm also interested in the resale value of the neighborhood and whether it would be a good neighborhood to raise a family in. Thanks for your input!

Hi Amanda,

The first thing that any home buyer should do is contact a Realtor who specializes in your local market. This is especially imperative for any first time home buyers. You will be pleasantly surprised how much easier your outlook on buying a home will be. A Realtor will be able to create a buyer plan that meets your particular needs along with setting you up with a reputable lender to find out what loan programs including a FHA option will best suit you. Good Luck!

Amanda,

I have had the pleasure of working with a few clients that in the Nokomis area. The majority seem to be young single (20's and 30's) professionals or young married couples. The closer you are to the lake or the creek on the north side, the more expensive the houses are and the better the resale is in general.

There are parts of the area (generally south) that get quite a bit of airplane noise from the international airport so this is something that you will want to pay attention to. If you are considering an area affected by the noise be sure to ask if the houses you are looking at had the MAC improvements. For a time the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) paid to update homeowners windows, insulation and air conditioning systems in order to cut down on the noise in certain areas. The program was ended and not all houses received the improvements in time so there are some houses that have them and some that don't. Those that do have them should be worth more because of the improvements that were made.

Check out the link to some information from MAC about noise, there are a couple of maps there that you might find useful. I have also included a link to the Minneapolis Police Crime Statistics webpage. This should help you find a place for your family that is safe. Finally I have included a link to the Department of Corrections webpage identifying sexual offender residences. While it isn't a fun topic you can use this information to determine if there are areas of the neighborhood that you would like to avoid becuase a registered sex offender lives there.

I hope that this information will help. I would strongly recommend that you find a good agent to assist you throughout the process. Their help is paid for courtesy of the seller and will be invaluable to you as you move forward on a house. Please do let me know if you have any more questions or if I can be of any further assistance.

Hi Amanda,

The Keewaydin neighborhood can be pretty far reaching depending on who you talk to :) If you're speaking about the area close to Lake Nokomis, it is both a safe area and a great place to raise a family. Resale is generally good in the area, as long as you choose your location and type of home wisely.

Let me know if you were talking about a different specific area and hopefully I can shed some light on the neighborhood. If you have any other real estate or neighborhood questions, feel free to contact at any time.

Thanks!

Don
