Is it fairly common to have short-term rentals (eg, serviced apartment-style or vacation rentals) in Santa Monica?

Here is an article from the Santa Monica Daily Press about illegal vacation rentals in Santa Monica and the fines the city was imposing. http://www.smdp.com/Articles-c-2011-07-11-72170.113116-Homeo…

I hope you find this information helpful.

Ironically, there was an article on that very subject in the Santa Monica Daily Press this morning titled
Vacation rental owners fight for legality.

Check out the what the City has to say about it @

Yes, we do have a lot of these, however if you are the owner thinking of doing this, there are specific requirements in the City of Santa Monica on how short of a rental it can be, if you are searching for a short term rental, it is going to depend upon when you will be arriving on the availability, many of them book up 6 to 10 months in advance.

Thanks. I'm actually looking to buy in Santa Monica as an investment property. However, rather than doing long-term rental (1 year +), I would rather do short term rentals. I have family in LA and would like to be able to use the property for personal use a few times during the year as well. Thus, a big factor in my search would be attractiveness/viability of the property as a short-term rental property. It would be great to speak further with you directly on this.
