Hello Phillips.Mary_mp,

If you wantt o find out which schools would best meet your child's academic needs look up the schools API (academic performance index) score.

a score of 8 means the school meets state standards.
The highest score is a 10.

Best of luck to you

You can start by contacting the local police station in that neighborhood.

Here's the website: http://www.lapdonline.org/southwest_community_police_station

Also, http://greatschools.org is a good start to look for a school.

This neighborhood may or may not be much different from where you're moving from.

Good luck.

There are a couple of websites I recommend to get you started in your school search: http://rsi.lausd.net/ResidentSchoolIdentifier/ (if you are in the LA Unified School District) and http://www.greatschools.org/. Also, once you have identified your school, schedule a visit and meet the teachers as well as other parents and talk to them about their impressions. You can also look at private schools on the GreatSchools website as well. Best of luck!
