When it comes to any safety/crime related issues, it's always best to contact the local police department with all your questions, hear all there is to hear firsthand. If unfamiliar with the area(s) do revisit more than once and at different times of day, possibly chat with locals/neighbors. Real estate professionals are prohibited from steering, enticing a buyer to purchase/rent, or not, in specific neighborhoods.

Hi Clarissa,

As a Realtor we really can not say what is safe. Search for a crime map on line or contact the local police department for information on a neighborhood. Contact me if you are looking for a Realtor. miekeba@heymannrealty.com

Hi Clarissa,
You should definitely contact the local police department on Philadelphia avenue next to the Takoma Park Library. As someone who has spent the better part of 20 plus years in that area with family who live there, I can tell you the neighborhood is pretty friendly. It has become safer and safer over the years. I have never had an issue personally. I would love to help you further with any housing questions should you have any.

Hi Clarissa. As a Realtor I am not at liberty to say. Try calling the police for that area or check on line.

It's always best to go to the local police station and obtain factual information. I can tell you personally that I feel very safe being in Takoma Park at night.

I've lived here for five years and it feels pretty safe to me. I haven't had any problems. Very little violent crime as far as I can tell. Break-ins occasionally, but that happens in almost all areas, I believe. In my area there are lots of children who play together. What seems unusual about my neighborhood is the remarkable diversity of the residents (race, religion, family structure) and that everyone gets along fine.

Just a year in Takoma and overall I find it safe - good schools and easy access to transportation to transportation. If you want to live in the city but have the community of suburbs Takoma is a great place. BTW I am a female who walks to and from metro every day.

I think it all depends on what you consider "safe"

I lived in Takoma Park for a year in 2011 and as a single woman in her early 30's sharing a bungalow with two another roommate I did not feel that safe at night. The area is not well lit at night and the buses take forever and a day to come.

Also, I wasn't really looking for it but I did not see many places for young kids to play in or hang out.

I don't know if I would want to raise a family there.... I hope this helps.

Hey Clarissa,

We can not discuss crime information. you can go to MPD data or review Mont. Co police report data to make that determination. I would suggest if you are interested in this area to drive around at different times of day and evening to make a self assessment.

The people that I know in TP are very friendly and there are lots of family. they are also a great source of information given they are the eyes and ears of the community.

let me know if i can help
