That's right, the Laurelwood Elementary scored 926 API, and Peterson Middle, Wilcox High are about 800. Some buyers go after 95014, 95129 schools which score 900+ in all levels. That's the difference.

Laurelwood is one of the best elementary schools in the Santa Clara Unified School District and the neighborhood is nice. However, some buyers want to buy in neighborhoods with all 3 schools -- elementary, middle, and high school -- in the 900s or very high 800s API.

Mon May 21, 2012 is a good website to compare schools. Some parents like to focus on a school's API score (Academic Performance Index) which are results achieved through State testing. In my opinion, a school is only as good as the children who tested there - that year. California Department of Education link: provides API information for it's schools as well as a Parents Guide that might be of help to you.
