Google maps and google search will show you for a certain address the surrounding areas and you can click on searches for restaurants schools etc., information about a certain town, go to the town's website....
And yes the police department, drive the neighborhood at different times of the day and days of the week, to get a feeling for whether that particular area meets your needs.... and remember everybody's needs are different.
As Realtors we have to be very careful not to make any remarks and recommendations of areas or neighborhoods, in order not to be found guilty of "steering", what we can do is guide you to websites that would answer your questions, and with the availability of the internet, you will be able to get all your questions answered....

Good luck to you in your home search!

In Coral Gables you have Coral Gables hospital on 37th Av. just south of Miracle Mile. You also have Mercy Hospital on South Bayshore Dr. in the Grove. There is Miami Children's for pediatric care just west of the Gables and Jackson Memorial and Baptist in Kendall are also convenient to both areas.

There are supermarkets convenient to both locations, including a Fresh Market in the Grove and a Whole Foods in the Gables/Sunset area. Publix grocery store abounds.

For crime stats, check with the local authorities, but I believe both locations to be quite safe. There was even an interesting article on the Grove in the Miami Herald (see link below). These links may help...……

For accurate and up to the minute information regarding any safety concerns, do contact/visit the local police department and ask all your questions, hear all there is to hear firsthand--they'll gldly help--if you are not too familiar with the area, do take some time and visit, look for everything that important to you, possibly chat with locals, drive around neighborhoods, etc., also try a Google search and Google Maps for any shops, supermarkets, hospitals, etc.
