you can talk to a lender to get specifics about the affect on your credit. in general your score is going to experience a big drop. I believe you have to wait 2 years from the settlement before you can qualify for an fha mortgage - longer for conventional. Plus your score has to have recovered by then.
keep in mind the repercussions of a foreclosure are more dire.

Sally Grenier answered:
FYI -- Trulia is NOT a real estate company, or even a property management company. Trulia (and Zillow and are just marketing sites that offer info about buying, selling, and renting. The listings you see come from various sources, such as local MLSs (multiple listing services), public records, and individual properties for rent. You'll need to contact the person or company who provided the listing you're interested in. Beware of the many scams here. It's better to just google property management companies in your area and contact them directly.

Good luck!

It is definitely possible to lease just based on what you have stated. Truth be told some landlords may hold your bankruptcy against you while others may be a little bit more forgiving. I would advise that you be prepared to pay a higher security deposit or a few months rent up front (first and last month rent + security deposit for example).

Feel free to contact me.

Banks would be more apt to see that you are using debt wisely instead of just moving it around. I would just paying off/down the credit cards - maybe by consolidating them into a low interest card rather than securing them against your house.

I would say that would not be the wisest or most responsible move. And you still have the same amount of debt.

You could talk with a local banker/lender though and see what options you have.
