You could always map it on the Internet and use the Street View to walk it virtually.
Or, use the Directions to map the distance and time to a specific point.

Either way, I would use a local rental professional to save time and money and also to make sure you don't miss a great rental or tenant.

The others have the best answer - a realtor would be most efficient. Banks usually list their REOs on their web sites as well but you'll have to check each bank. The bank I work for, fortunately for our customers, has no REOs in this area.

Hi Bird,
You will have to consider a few things for each property that you look at. Start with purchase price (lowest seem to be in the Dorchester sections right now) and then calculate rent. You will need an agent to help you figure out your annual operating costs so you can compute your Net Operating Income and then compare it to your costs.

Best of luck!

Jeff Persons answered:
Unfortunately you are not going to be able to find a 1 bedroom downtown for 200K. Maybe in Dorchester or Mattapan but not in the fun neighborhoods like Back Bay, Beacon Hill or the South End. Maybe in Fenway you could find a 1 bed in the low 300Ks or a studio for maybe 250K. Real fun neighborhood for young people and very close to everything. Is it wiser to buy a condo in the burbs for 200K? It depends where you have to go every day. If you need to be close to downtown I'd try to get in to the Fenway or Jamaica Plain.
