Hi John,

I'd go to the mold remediation company instead for a consultation, which is free...
Air duct cleaning, according to a few AC pros I spoke with in the past, is not the way to go when it comes to mold. Most remediation companies will first remove all wet surfaces throughout the house (which you can do yourself too). Then they clean the air in all areas of the house killing the spores. Then, they would clean the actual AC with Microban or some other chemical to kill the rest of the mold.

Of course, the process should be finished with the air test from a reputable company.

This is, of course, if the mold is not toxic, which it sounds like it is not.

Hope this helps,

Mold is always a difficult thing to have to deal with. It can be even worse when the mold is in your ducts. Most people are either using their heat or their air conditioning for the majority of the year. It would be awful to spread the mold every time you need to use either of those things. I think the best way to make sure that you get this taken care of properly is by finding a few different companies and looking into their reviews. That way you will have a better chance of finding the best available service.

Most air duct cleaning services are very reputable. One way to find a good one is by word of mouth, which you are doing. I would also look into their licensing and experience of the techs the company employees as well. Mold can be a tricky problem. Glad you're getting it taken care of sooner rather than later.

I agree with Elias, you just have to do your research. Make sure that you find a place with good reviews online. But like he said, you are going to want to get this mold removed as soon as possible. Black mold can cause so many health issues, especially if you have small children. http://www.arlingtonheating.com/services/duct-cleaning.php

I would recommend looking into a few different places before you make your decision. I know that is what I always do. I have a lot of pets so I have to get mine cleaned often.

We are in the process of buying a home that was foreclosed on 2 years ago. It has been vacant since. I want to have the ducts professionally cleaned before we move in. I think I will find a local company. Thanks!

That is a really great idea, you should definitely get the ducts cleaned before you move in. You don't know if the person who lived there before had a cat, and you don't know what kinds of things are up in the vents. It's better for your health to get them cleaned out. http://www.homeplusductcleaning.ca/residential.html

I have a similar situation I am dealing with. Our company just relocated to what was an old, vacant warehouse. They did a good job of renovating it to a business complex, but I am not sure if they cleaned the vents and ducts. I want to find a commercial HVAC cleaning service to come make sure they are clean. The last thing we want is our employees being exposed to unhealthy air as a result of dirty vents and air ducts.

You have mold in your ducts? Are you talking about residential or commercial cleaning. We had to get our air ducts cleaned at my work because employees have to breathe clean air too. They did a really good job, or at least I think they did. I've never cleaned ducts before so I don't really know what to expect. http://www.cleanhvac.com/commercial/

There are a lot of different duct cleaning companies that you can try. I've found that the easiest way to pick a company is to get reviews and recommendations from people you know. That way you know someone who has experienced the companies service and know how well they do. It's a good idea for finding all sorts of companies. http://www.powervactoronto.ca

I would contact Andrew Provitola 781-294-7071 of enviromental resources. he does testing so he may have good suggestions as to remediation.

Thank you for the recommendation, Louis. I don't think my ducts have been cleaned since I moved into my home. My wife is expecting our first child, and I am concerned about air quality. Asthma is common in my family, so I want our baby to have clean air.

Thanks Louis. We are on a tight budget since our renovations on the house. From your experience, how much do you think a central air duct cleaning will run if you also have to get rid of mold? I never had this happen to me before so I have no idea where to start. I will also contact Andy too.
