If you want to search for homes that are not on the MLS, you can search on craigslist and other classified or real estate websites such as fsbo.com or forsalebyowner.com, etc.

There are many sites that are helpful for buyers. In addition to all those sites listed below, we also like http://www.streeteasy.com, because it is a neat and as the name says an easy format to search for properties. RealtyTrac.com is mainly used if you are looking for pre-foreclosures, auctions, and REO properties. Other sites include Owners.com, Homesbyowner.com, BuyOwner.com and SellByOwner.com.
By consulting with a Realtor you can be assured you will not miss out on properties, because we have access to the full MLS database. David and I would be happy to send you a list of homes that meet your needs. If you are seeking something in 11210 which is the Midwood area, that is where our office is located.
Please give us a call or visit our website below - we are happy to assist you!

You need to have a great agent helping to locate properties for you. As agents we have many resources to get and find listings and we will make sure you do not miss out on anything.
Having said that the best online resources for finding properties as you stated are http://www.Realtor.com, http://www.Trulia.com, http://www.Zillow.com and here in Brooklyn you may also want to check out http://www.NYTimes.com. I would also suggest you do a "google" search using the zip code you are looking in and the words "homes for sale."
If I can be of further assistance please let me know. Good luck!

Nothing could be easier, AND.....you have a relationship with an agent that will look after your best interests, walk you through the process and pick up a friend for life. Really.
Scott Miller, Realty Associates, Boca Raton, FL
Really, you shouldn't be missing out on many properties that way. What you'd be missing out on are pure FSBO properties--properties beings sold that are never listed on the MLS. There will be some, but likely your agent won't have easy access to them, either. There are some sites that are set up specifically for FSBOs, though, so you should check those, too. And some FSBOs sell on sites like Craigslist.
So: Best online resources would be Realtor.com or your local MLS through a local Realtor. Then make sure you're looking at the FSBO sites and at Craigslist. That's about as good as you'd be able to do.
Hope that helps.
