The Katy area is about 18-20 miles west of the Galleria and is feed by two major roads. I-10 that features toll lanes in the middle and the Westpark Toll road, exclusive toll only. The I-10 option is closer to Green Trails and has the option of using the toll lanes in the middle. Cinco Ranch is huge and is close to both roads. The Westpark Toll Road can have some bottle necks on the way into town.
I have added a link below to Houston Transtar that can give you stats on both roads at different times of the day. This site might help you best gauge which location is better. I have sold in both communities. Let me know if I can assist you with your relocation to Houston.

Depending on traffic, this would be a 10 to 20 minute commute. I have a bunch of rentals within 10 minutes of TSU. I would be happy to let you check them out!

The train does pass through there several times a day (and night). But that is not the big issue. The big issue is the expansion of Hwy 290 (Hempstead Highway to older timers that live in Cy-Fair). The traffic noise from the freeway might be a bigger concern.

Stone Gate is a wonderful community. But I would recommend staying a few blocks south of the northern edge of the neighborhood. The other homes will buffer some of that noise. Here is a link to the community with more information.

Being from the Northwest of Houston, I will always like to see out of towners move to The Woodlands, Spring, Cypress or Tomball. However, there are many suburbs of Houston and your lifestyle should be the dictator of where you live. i.e. Do you need land or a large backyard for your three dogs to run? Are you going to use public transportation to get to work? What property fits your budget, etc.?

77014 is just off of FM 1960 close to Walters Rd. Northwest Memorial Hospital is about 15 minutes away close to I-45 and Cali dr. There is a Map at the bottom of the Rental link you referred to.
There are also bus lines on FM1960 if you need transportation.

Also, there is a large Kelsey Seybold complex closer on FM 1960 at Cypress Woods Medical across from Northgate.

The house posted for lease is actually in the Chateau Forest or Woodland Forest subdivision. It's a strecth to call it "Greater Inwood", that's the greater part of the description. Inwood proper is actually east of there, which is where I live. We have a very active community including the Inwood Forest COP (IFCOP) program made up of volunteers that patrol the area and report suspicious activities to the HPD.

If you are in Inwood the high school would be Eisenhower
which is part of the Aldine school system and has very high rating and has recently won several national awards in education. Check to see if this house is in the Aldine district and if not you may want to look for something in Inwood Forest, Inwood Pines or Inwood North subdivisions. You may pay a little more but you'll get more as well.

You can always check this web site if the home is in Harris County.

And when you want to be 100% sure, check with your insurance agent that has direct access to FEMA maps. Flood zones do change from time to time so keep that in mind.

Currently, the rail is expanding throughout almost the ENTIRE Inner Loop. Our Inner City is quickly growing and there have been many recent improvements and developments in the city. Living in the City, here in Houston, is becoming the trend. There are several HOME options in the city. In my professional opinion, a resident here in the city still needs some personal form of transportation. Rail expansion should be done by early next year?

I would say-- not really. The city is sprawling and the weather can get unbearably hot and so waiting for a bus will not be pleasant. METRO rail is very limited. I love it here though....but I definitely couldn't manage without my car. Downtown is not like New York where residential areas are interspersed with commerical.
