I don't think there is value in adding hardwood if the carpet is in perfectly good condition. What are the trends in your area? If the majority of homes that are selling have hardwood, it may be smart to do the same. I would consult with your realtor.

This is really a preference thing, and the value of either option will really come down to what people prefer the most. You should talk to a realtor about which one is making more money in the area. With that knowledge you should be able to figure out which way to go. you wouldn't want to spend a ton of money on hardwood floors if simply cleaning your carpet will make you more money.

My wife and I have been arguing about what we are going to have installed in our newly renovated basement. She wants wood flooring and I want carpet. What she doesn't understand is that the floor is going to get cold in the winter time and she hates anything that has to do with a cold temperature. Hopefully I can get her to realize this.

I think that carpet is good in certain rooms, and hardwood is good for other areas. I think that kitchen areas are great for hardwood, but it's always nice to have soft carpet for living rooms and bedrooms. It's always a good idea to make sure that your carpet is still soft and in good condition. That can make a big difference in the carpet and how soft it is! http://www.carpetkingcarpet1keene.com/

I think that it would be depend on the room. I really like carpet in the family room and bedrooms. When my family and I can lay on the room or sit on the carpet. Both have their benefits so it really just depends on your preference and style. Thanks for sharing and best of luck! http://www.chilliwackcarpetonechilliwack.com/carpet

I was going to say the same thing. Hardwood floors add a lot of value to kitchens and living rooms, but bedrooms are still generally carpeted. It helps bring down noise levels and adds a lot of comfort. I'd keep the carpet for the bedrooms if you're going to change something.

I prefer carpet over hardwood floors. My sister just replaced hers from : http://www.donnamichaels.com/. We need a good carpet cleaning soon. Have any suggestions?

Yeah, I would say the same thing. Hardwood floor is nice in some areas of the house (such as the kitchen or entryway), but most people prefer carpet in the bedrooms and hallways. It makes for a more welcoming and homey environment. If yours are in good condition, I'd simply have them cleaned. | http://www.creativecarpetinc.com

Hardwood floors are very very popular with buyers and do add more value than carpet.

That being said, price is king with selling these days, so it really depends on if you think you can get the value of your home by spending thousands on hardwood and still be able to sell your home. In other words, do you think you can sell your home for what you want and still recoup the expenditure on the floors and compete or do you want to just price it to move and not do anything.

I would reach out to a few listing agents in the area and get a market analysis with or without and then decide.

It is true that adding value to your home would be good, but not everyone is looking for hardwood floors. I'm not against hardwood floors, but I would only like them in certain areas of my house. I feel that carpets are best for bedrooms and living rooms.
